Day 1: Thursday, September 13, 2018:
This morning, you will board an Amtrak train in Cary, NC, for a relaxing ride to our nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. Lunch (on your own) will be aboard the train. Upon arrival, you will walk through the historic Union Station. You will then be transferred to Carmine’s restaurant where serving “family style” encourages interaction with new friends and trying new things. You’ll have to be hungry to appreciate this place! After dinner, you will be transferred to the luxurious and elegant Omni Shoreham Hotel, where your luggage will be waiting for you in your rooms. The Omni will be your home for the next 3 nights. The hotel has played host to presidents, world leaders, and inaugural balls.

Day 2: Friday, September 14, 2018:
An exciting day is in store for you today! You will be discovering the celebrated history of America’s capital on a tour with a local expert. Following your breakfast (included) at the hotel, you will board your motor coach. Many of the sites you will see today you have seen in movies, on television, and in magazines, and now you are here to see in person. Marvel at the sight of the White House and the Washington Monument; delight in the wonderful views of the many monuments and museums. Upon arrive at the Capitol, our own Senator Burr has arranged a special tour for our group. As you walk through the Rotunda, you will be immersed in events and the history of our great nation. The five levels and 540 rooms include the meeting rooms of the Senate and House of Representatives. Following our lunch stop at the Café inside the Capitol (on your own), your tour will continue with stops at the moving World War II Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, and the Korean War Memorial. Dinner will be on your own this evening. (B)

Day 3: Saturday, September 15, 2018:
Following your included breakfast this morning, you will continue your “discovery” of Washington. First, you will visit Arlington National Cemetery, where we will have a guided tour with transportation of the cemetery, including the Famous Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Changing of the Guard ceremony. We will also visit the grave site of President John F. Kennedy. Afterwards, we will then board our coach for a ride down Embassy Row. How many countries will you be able to identify from their flags? We continue our tour with a guided visit to Washington National Cathedral. You will be sure to admire the beautiful craftsmanship of the cathedral as you learn more about its history during a docent-led tour. We will stop at the National Gallery of Art for lunch (on own) followed by free time to explore the Smithsonian Museums. View the US History museum, or perhaps, spend time in the National Gallery of Art.

This evening there will be a special farewell dinner on the Odyssey, a dinner cruise from which you will experience Washington from a stunning glass-enclosed ship. You will cruise by the Jefferson Memorial, the Kennedy Center, and other points of interest (weather permitting). While enjoying the spectacular views, you will partake delicious cuisine. Also, there will be live music for dancing and your enjoyment. (B,D)

Day 4: Sunday, September 16, 2018:
This morning you will have breakfast (included) at leisure before being transferred to Union Station for your ride back to Cary. (B)
