Detailed Itinerary:

DAY 1: ARRIVE MONTRÉAL

Upon arrival in Montréal meet your tour director and transfer to your hotel. Although Montréal is one the world’s five largest French-speaking cities, most residents are bilingual. Tonight, meet your fellow Our State travelers for a wine & beer reception before enjoying a welcome dinner in vibrant Old Town Montréal, which dates back to the 1600s. (D) Overnight: Montréal

DAY 2: MONTRÉAL CITY TOUR

With its dual English and French cultures, Montréal is Canada’s most cosmopolitan city. This morning, enjoy a Montréal City Tour highlighting the Notre Dame Cathedral, St. Joseph’s Oratory, Jacques Cartier Square, McGill University, and a panoramic view of the city from atop Mount Royal. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure to explore the quaint shops, boutiques, and restaurants of this amazing city. (B) Overnight: Montréal

DAY 3: MONTRÉAL — RAIL JOURNEY — QUÉBEC CITY

This morning, board Via Rail Canada for the scenic and relaxing train ride to the “Paris of North America,” Québec City. Carved into the bluffs overlooking the St. Lawrence River, Québec City is the provincial capital and probably the best preserved city in North America. Dinner is included this evening at a popular local restaurant. (B,D) Overnight: Québec City

DAY 4: QUÉBEC CITY TOUR

Today, enjoy a Québec City Tour introducing you to Old & New Québec, North America’s only walled city. The tour features the Plains of Abraham, the famous Le Château Frontenac and The Citadel. Québec City was once the center of New France and has been the focal point of French and British battles for generations. Here, the residents are French Canadian from their food and customs to their language and way of thinking. In the afternoon, visit the Albert Gilles Copper Museum to discover his creations from copper ore to works of art. Discover the mysterious atmosphere of a copper mine, and see copper bearing rocks. Later, visit the historic Montmorency Falls, the highest falls in Eastern Canada (98 feet higher than Niagara Falls) & one of the most popular attractions in the region. (B) Overnight: Québec City

DAY 5: QUÉBEC CITY — OTTAWA

Today, travel along the banks of the St. Lawrence River, a route used by early French explorers and fur traders to Canada’s stately capital city, Ottawa. This afternoon, enjoy an Ottawa City Tour to see the Parliament Buildings located high above the Ottawa River on historic Parliament Hill, the Supreme Court, the Prime Minister’s residence, the War Memorial, the Peace Tower, and Byward Market & Rideau Canal, which is filled with boats in the summer & ice skaters in the winter. In the evening, enjoy dinner with your fellow Our State travelers in Ottawa at a popular local restaurant. (B,D) Overnight: Ottawa

DAY 6: OTTAWA — 1000 ISLANDS — TORONTO

After breakfast enjoy the scenery as you travel to the 1000 Islands area which is made up of 1864 islands straddling the US-Canadian border. Arrive in the Kingston area to board your 1000 Islands Cruise to travel amongst some of the large, small, and tiny islands. Later, travel to Toronto, Canada’s largest city and the fourth largest economy in North America. Check into your hotel for a one night stay and enjoy the evening at leisure. (B) Overnight: Toronto

DAY 7: TORONTO — NIAGARA ON THE LAKE — NIAGARA FALLS

This morning, enjoy a Toronto City Tour featuring the modern downtown area, Yorkville and the Provincial Parliament. Toronto, the capital of the province of Ontario, is along Lake Ontario’s northwestern shore. It’s a dynamic metropolis with a core of soaring skyscrapers, all dwarfed by the iconic, free-standing CN Tower. Later visit Niagara-on-the-Lake, charming Canadian town located where the Niagara River meets Lake Ontario. Then travel to Niagara Falls and check into your hotel for a two night stay on the Canadian side of the Falls. (B) Overnight: Niagara Falls

DAY 8: NIAGARA FALLS

Today enjoy a Niagara Falls City Tour featuring the Floral Clock (the largest in the world) and the Horticultural Center. Later experience the legendary Niagara Falls Boat Tour for a breathtaking up close encounter with the awe-inspiring thundering falls. Other than the falls themselves the boat excursion is the most famous attraction in the area. The Niagara Falls were created by glacier activity over 10,000 years ago, and the 3 waterfalls combine to produce the highest flow rate of any waterfall on earth. Tonight enjoy a Farewell Dinner at the world-famous Skylon Tower which combines an exhilarating 52 second ride with the awe of seeing Niagara from 775 feet above the mighty Falls. (B,D) Overnight: Niagara Falls

More

What to expect on an Our State trip:  Traveling with a group of Our State readers is an enriching, enjoyable, and safe way to experience new cultures, people, and places. In addition to the informative narration from the tour director and local guides, an Our State host will be available to assist in making your trip successful. We usually fly to our destination, then travel by a comfortable motor coach with anywhere from 35 to 50 people who appreciate learning about new regions. Your entire trip will be guided, planned, and arranged for your upmost enjoyment. Many activities are things you can only do because you are traveling with Our State. You can also choose not to attend an activity if you prefer something different. Please let your tour director know if you are not coming on a scheduled day. Many meals are included. Where you have meals on your own, suggestions will be provided. Most of the motor coaches have restrooms but every effort will be made to make regular rest stops. One of the best parts of traveling with Our State is that you will meet new people, many of whom you will already have much in common with since most travelers read the magazine. Many guests often develop friendships that go on long after the tour is finished. Our State trips are generally filled with dynamic and friendly people. Physical requirements: Our tours are physically active but not meant to be strenuous. Please be aware you will be on your feet, walking and standing for much of the day, indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions and terrains. There will also be extended time on the motor coach when we travel from place to place. If there are any mobility issues you will need to have an able-bodied traveling companion to accompany and assist you. We regret that we’re unable to provide individual assistance to guests with walking difficulties or other personal needs. The responsibility of the Trip Director who accompanies your trip is to ensure that the larger group enjoys a relaxing and informative journey, and he or she cannot be relied upon to provide ongoing individual assistance to any one guest. Guests requiring such individualized assistance must be accompanied by an able-bodied companion who can provide it. If you have additional questions, please call Our State’s Travel Director Amy Wood Pasquini at 336-286-0600, or email apasquini@ourstate.com.
